VIKING RIVER: Utility

Part of our Galley team on our River vessels, the Utility always provides high standards and consistency of cleanliness of the crockery. In charge of absolute cleanliness and tidiness in the scullery in accordance with Viking Standards and Operating Procedures. The Utility reports to the Executive Chef

SCENIC CRUISE : ORDINARY SAILOR

The Ordinary Sailor carries out work under the Bosun. He performs cleaning, polishing of wood, brass and other metal parts, painting or lacquering of the bridge superstructure, lifeboats, or the ship’s sides. He follows splicing and cable repair onboard, covers the safety roles assigned by the Safety Officer, and remains in operation at the bow or stern, carrying out the orders from the Bosun.

SCENIC CRUISE : ABLE SEAMAN

The Able Seaman remains on lookout on the Bridge during navigation. He sends specific signals to ships in the vicinity, paying attention to marine traffic. At the express order of the Captain or the Watch Officer, the Able Seaman is positioned on the steering column to guide the ship’s manual steering system. During navigation, if not assigned to the watch, the Able Seaman stays at the bow or stern. If not on watch, the Able Seaman performs cleaning, polishing of wood, brass and other metal parts, painting or lacquering of the bridge superstructure, lifeboats, or the ship’s sides.

SCENIC CRUISE : CARPENTER

  • Responsible for all carpentry and woodwork onboard

 

SCENIC CRUISE : FITTER

The Fitter is a person with great experience and dexterity related to engine work. He or she provides monitoring, maintenance, and repair of the mechanical parts of any equipment on the vessel, including pipes, as required by the Staff Engineer.

SCENIC CRUISE : WIPER

Wiper is primarily engaged in the cleaning and painting of various areas and machinery that are in the Engine Room and all those places considered “technical.” He is also assigned to the handling of materials and spare parts. The Wiper works under the guidance of the Foreman

SCENIC CRUISE : MOTORMAN

The Motorman is a person with experience in the inspection and maintenance, scheduled and unscheduled, of the engine as a whole. The Motorman also serves watch under the direction and supervision of the Chief Engine Watch Officer.

SCENIC CRUISE : PLUMBER

The Plumber is a person with extensive experience in the field of maintenance and repair of hydraulic systems in general, in particular with water distribution circuits, with treatment and disposal of sewage and wastewater, and with systems for swimming pools and hot tubs. He reports to the Hotel Engineer. The Plumber has experience in workshops, as well as in the maintenance and repair of the nonelectrical components of equipment located kitchens or in bars found in large hotels, such as dishwashers, mixers, pasta cookers, ovens, etc. The Plumber must be skilled in the management of spare parts.

SCENIC CRUISE : INCINERATOR

  • Responsible for the general operation and cleanliness of the Waste Treatment Room.
  • Ensure all waste is properly prepared to be processed into the incinerators, shredders, compactor, or stored in cold store.
  • Ensure that all waste is properly separated, packaged and labeled as required before disposal
  • Always be present in the Incinerator Room while the Incinerator is in use

SCENIC CRUISE : AC FITTER

AC Fitter Responsibilities will include routine maintenance, inspections, and repairs on mechanical equipment. You will be working with the HVAC system and HVAC room equipment, completing tasks such as replacing filters, daily checks and adjusting parameters etc. You will also be doing maintenance of hotel refrigeration machines and equipment such as fridges, ice machines etc.
